A tribute to team spirit, volunteerism & passion for delivering value

On 22 November, the PMI Luxembourg Chapter celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Project Management Institute (PMI) with a focus on the professionals — PMI members, volunteers, certification holders, friends and all those who consider project, program and portfolio management their profession — and their accomplishments in not just delivering successful outcomes, but in making a difference.

Supported by the Luxembourgish Chamber of Commerce (Chambre de Commerce) and hosted in its Auditorium, the event brought together more than 100 project management enthusiasts who gathered to honour their efforts and achievements. Since 1969 when PMI was established and for 50 years now, PMI has been assisting project management professionals to deliver value for their organisations, advance their careers, and mature the profession. Quite successfully, over these years, the project management profession grow from people who just did scheduling and planning, to people who are managing billion dollar projects and developing new products on two-week sprint cycles.

As PMI Luxembourg Chapter President Mrs Saskia VAN DYCK quoted, though, in her welcome speech: “The 50 years anniversary is not only a time to recognize the progress that the profession as a whole has made but also serves as an opportunity to envisage how to make a positive impact, fuel social change and promote project management as the profession of future.” To support this idea, the Luxembourg Chapter, throughout 2019, has been cooperating with Sportunity, a local NGO that supports refugees’ integration in the Luxembourgish society through sport activities. Chapter members, turning into Local Buddies, have been joining to help refugees residing in Luxembourg to regain the feeling of belonging so it was a great time to acknowledge their efforts.

After honouring all the other great work of the Chapters’ volunteers in 2019, it was time for a laugh: Mr Peter TAYLOR - author of many bestselling books about Project Management but also well-known trainer, speaker, and entertainer - took over to present the lighter side of the profession and discuss on how humour can be a catalyst in the success of any project!

The exchange continued during a networking cocktail. As always, experiences were shared and connections created.
