Is there a perfect project Management method that apply to every organisation? How can we select the “right way” without forcing project teams to endless meetings and document updates?

These are recurrent questions that came out quite often in project management discussions. More than 100 professionals registered and participated in the organised by the PMI Luxembourg Charter event, hosted in NOVOTEL Kirchberg Hotel, in an atempt to further discuss and elaborate on them.

David BLAZQUEZ VILA (European Stability Mechanism), Antonios KASOTAKIS (European Parliament) and Pasquale Daniele MASUCCI (Luxair) presented the different methods used in their organisations to support projects management.

The aim of this comparative presentation was the investigation of best practices, so that participants could associate them against acknowledged standards such as the PMI methodology, identify areas of interest and possibly adapt them to their organisations' own project management methodologies. Keeping project management as simple and efficient as possible is the overall goal!

Some of the major common hints indicated include:

• Preparing templates for every document, or adapt your vocabulary to your unique business context to ensure real understanding and commitment from all different parts involved.
• Ensure governance, monitor and control activities, not only to have “nice slides and dashboards” but to closely work with the Project Owner.
• Manage conflict  ofresources, communicating openly potential risks to your governance structure.
• Select carefully your tools, and use them: Be assisted by the method, not become a slave of it.

After the lively presentations, a panel discussion followed hosting interesting questions and discussion. Issues like "does these methods apply to small start ups?" or "any suggestion for the estimation in IT?" and "how we approach other methodologies such as PM2?" were approached and debated.

Questions and approaches where further elaborated during the networking cocktail, as the PMI Luxembourg Chapter has the habit to organize.
